Sand tiger shark — size comparison — facts and sources
The sand tiger shark inhabits temperate and subtropical coastal waters. It has a substantial body and long, sharp teeth visible even with its mouth partly closed. It occurs around reefs, in bays and underwater caves.
It eats fish, rays, squid and crustaceans. It can swallow air at the surface and retain it in its stomach. This helps regulate buoyancy and hover almost motionless above the bottom. It may rest in groups at suitable sites.
