The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The saltwater crocodile inhabits northern Australia, South-East Asia and Indo-Pacific islands. It uses estuaries, lagoons, mangroves and coastal wetlands. Large males grow much bigger than females, and adults may defend extensive territories.
A powerful swimmer and ambush predator, it eats fish, birds, turtles and mammals near water. The tail provides most swimming propulsion, while high-set eyes allow it to watch the shore. Salt glands enable it to use habitats with different salinities and travel along coasts.
Females build nests from vegetation and guard them until hatching. Young crocodiles face far more predators than large adults.
