Salmon shark — size comparison — facts and sources
The salmon shark inhabits cool and temperate North Pacific waters. It has a stocky, streamlined body, dark back and pale belly. It can maintain parts of its body above surrounding water temperature, supporting active hunting in cold seas.
It catches salmon, herring and squid. Movements relate to food availability and reproduction; females have been recorded travelling towards California and Oregon. Numerous individuals may gather where fish are abundant without forming a permanent cooperative group.
