The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The sailfish is a slender fish of warm oceans, with an elongated upper jaw and an enormous sail-like dorsal fin. It lives mainly in surface layers of the open sea and along shelf edges.
It hunts schooling fish and cephalopods, sometimes in loose groups. It may raise the tall fin while approaching a school and fold it into a groove along the back during fast swimming, reducing drag. The long bill helps strike and disorient small fish before capture.
