The rough-toothed dolphin inhabits warm tropical and subtropical oceanic waters. Its elongated head tapers gently, without the pronounced forehead-to-beak break of many dolphins. Its name refers to fine longitudinal grooves on the teeth.
It usually lives in small, close-knit groups, sometimes alongside other cetacean species. It hunts fish and squid. Closely swimming individuals may move almost simultaneously, maintaining group cohesion during travel and food searches.
