The roloway monkey has a distinctive long white beard, a pale chest and dark fur over most of its body. The inner thighs have a paler, yellowish shade. It was formerly treated as a subspecies of the Diana monkey.
It inhabits forests in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, including wet areas where tall trees remain. It spends most of its time above the ground. Its diet contains fruit, seeds, young leaves and invertebrates. Group members maintain contact through calls, and the adult male warns of danger.
Remaining populations are severely fragmented. Hunting and loss of mature forests threaten the animals even where protected areas have formally been established.
