Muntiacus reevesi
The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
Reeves’s muntjac originates in East Asia but has also been introduced outside its natural range. It uses forests and dense scrub offering cover near feeding sites. In Europe it can use modified landscapes with suitable vegetation.
It eats leaves, shoots, fruit and bark, and bamboo in some habitats. It seeks food in low vegetation, occasionally also taking animal food.
Usually solitary, it is associated with a particular area. Scent marks and regular paths help organise daily movements.
