Lechwe — size comparison — facts and sources
The lechwe (Kobus leche) is an antelope of south-central African wetlands. It inhabits floodwaters, reedbeds and seasonally flooded meadows. A slender body, long limbs and widely spreading hooves suit soft ground. Adult males have horns.
It eats chiefly grasses and aquatic plants, using pastures whose availability changes with seasonal flood levels.
It lives in herds. When threatened it escapes through shallow water, spreading its weight over broad hooves.
