The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The red kangaroo inhabits Australian semi-deserts, dry grassy plains and scrub. It is the largest living marsupial. Adult males usually have reddish fur, while females are often blue-grey. A pale underside and contrasting cheek markings stand out against the back.
Powerful hind legs enable fast hopping, and the long tail aids balance. During slow movement, the tail bears part of the weight as an additional support. Grasses and herbaceous plants form most of its diet. It often feeds at dusk and at night to avoid extreme heat and also obtains water from plants.
It forms loose groups. A newborn is tiny and climbs into the mother’s pouch soon after birth to continue developing. Even after starting to venture outside, the young returns to the pouch for protection for a time.
