Moor frog — size comparison — facts and sources

The moor frog inhabits wet areas of Europe and temperate Asia. It usually has a brown back with darker spots and streaks along the sides of its head. A pointed snout and dorsal folds help distinguish it from some other brown frogs.

It occupies meadows, peatlands, forests and the surroundings of shallow water bodies. Its food consists of small invertebrates caught on land. It returns to water mainly during breeding, when males call and females lay spawn. Tadpoles develop in the water until metamorphosis.

The most striking change occurs in breeding males: their skin may turn intensely blue. After mating they return to a less conspicuous colour.
