The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The common raccoon dog is a canid with short legs, dense fur and a dark mask around the eyes. It resembles a raccoon but lacks its ringed tail and has a different paw structure. It originates in continental East Asia. This profile concerns Nyctereutes procyonoides, rather than the separately recognised Japanese raccoon dog.
Introduced populations have spread in Europe, including Poland, where the species affects native animal communities. In cold climates it can greatly reduce its winter activity. It inhabits damp forests, thickets and wetland margins. It eats small animals, carrion, fruit and other plant food.
