The pygmy marmoset (Cebuella pygmaea) is a tiny monkey of Amazonian riverside forests. It inhabits wet floodplain forests and dense undergrowth near watercourses. Agile movement along thin branches and vertical trunks allows it to use small spaces within forest vegetation.
Tree sap and gums are particularly important in its diet. It makes small holes in bark and regularly returns to the same places. Insects and small amounts of fruit supplement this specialised food. The distribution of suitable trees influences the family's occupied area.
It is active by day and lives in family groups. The father and other family members help care for young, so the female need not carry the offspring constantly.
Przednie zęby wycinają regularne otwory w korze, z których zwierzę pobiera gumy roślinne. Wilgotne lasy zalewowe i nadrzeczne z gęstym podszytem.
