The puma, Puma concolor, is a large cat of the Americas. A small head, powerful hind legs and a long tail give it a slender outline. Adults have a largely plain coat, while cubs are spotted.
It mainly hunts by ambush, using vegetation and terrain for cover. Deer are important prey, but diet varies with local conditions. Flexibility in both food and habitat allows it to occupy a broad, diverse range.
Pumas live alone and mark their ranges with scent and scratches to advertise their presence. Females raise the cubs and introduce them to independent hunting. The species belongs to the subfamily Felinae; cougar and mountain lion are other names for the same animal.
Mimo dużych rozmiarów należy do podrodziny Felinae, nie Pantherinae. W kolekcji jest dużym drapieżnikiem uzupełniającym megafaunę. Texas Parks and Wildlife podaje 25–30 cali wysokości w barku, czyli około 64–76 cm. Na planszy wybieramy 70 cm, nie wysokość do uszu.
