Puff adder — size comparison — facts and sources
The puff adder (Bitis arietans) is a venomous snake of African savannas and open forests.
Pale and dark patches break up its outline among dry plants, making a motionless snake difficult to notice. A solitary ambush predator, it hides in vegetation or among substrate features and waits for approaching prey.
Venom subdues prey after a rapid strike. It eats rodents and other small vertebrates. When threatened it inflates its body and hisses loudly. Males compete during breeding, and females give birth to live young.
Źródłowa średnia 80 cm; maksimum 150 cm jest osobną informacją. W obu ujęciach tułów pozostaje w pozycji bocznej, z lekkimi wygięciami.
