River cooter — size comparison — facts and sources

The river cooter (Pseudemys concinna) inhabits rivers, lakes and ponds in the eastern United States.

It spends much of the day basking and feeding. Young may eat animal food more often than adults.

It eats chiefly aquatic plants and occasional animals. Males use elongated claws in courtship. These turtles spend colder months submerged, while females lay eggs on land.
