The Zanzibar red colobus has black shoulders, a red lower back and pale underside. It occurs in forests, scrub and mangroves, living in groups with several males and females.
Young leaves and buds are important dietary components, supplemented by foods including unripe fruit. Animals travel in the canopy and rest for much of the day. They may also use secondary forests and vegetation near farmland but remain dependent on suitable trees.
