The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum) inhabits dry, open United States and Mexican landscapes, including prairies and desert edges. Sharp scales cover its flattened body, and pronounced spines project from its head.
By day it basks and watches for insects, sheltering in shade during the hottest hours. Usually solitary, it relies on colours matching the substrate.
It eats chiefly ants and other insects. It buries itself for winter. The female lays eggs in an excavated nest, covers them and provides no subsequent care of young.
