Philippine warty pig — size comparison — facts and sources

The Philippine warty pig is native to the eastern Philippine archipelago. It includes populations of Luzon and the Mindanao region. It uses forests and adjoining areas but in heavily altered landscapes often remains in remote forest patches. Its presence is easier to detect from tracks and rooted soil than direct encounters.

It eats roots, tubers, fallen fruit, leaves, grasses and small animal food. It roots in the substrate while foraging. It may be active by day or night; under heavy disturbance it uses darkness more often. It may visit crops close to forest shelters.

Single animals, pairs and small family groups have been encountered. They use wallows and vegetation nests. Much behavioural knowledge comes from scattered observations.
