The Philippine deer is native to the Philippines. The species includes populations on several islands, not only Luzon. It uses forests, wooded slopes and their edges. People have also introduced it outside its native archipelago.
It feeds in clearings and forest margins, eating grasses, leaves, fallen fruit and berries. Activity often begins in the evening and continues through the night. It spends the day hidden in dense vegetation. The plants taken depend on local habitats and seasonal food abundance.
Males usually remain solitary and may be aggressive during breeding. Females form small groups. Usually one calf is born, and its initial pale spots quickly disappear.
