Petrodromus tetradactylus lives in dense forest undergrowth and thickets. It has long, slender legs and four toes on each hind foot. Paths through the dense undergrowth are important travel routes linking feeding places with sheltered parts of its surroundings.
When foraging it searches vegetation with its elongated, mobile snout. It eats mainly insects, including ants and termites. Long limbs allow it to run and leap when danger arises. It may seek shelter in a burrow or hollow trunk. Activity includes daylight hours but also increases around dawn and dusk.
