The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Patagonian huemul inhabits the Andes of Chile and Argentina. It formerly occupied a larger area; its present refuges are scattered.
It uses mountain forests, scrub and meadows, selecting leaves, shoots, herbs and grasses according to local conditions. In some areas it changes elevation seasonally. It occurs alone or in small groups. The female usually rears one offspring, and quiet shelters are needed while caring for the young.
Illegal hunting, habitat conversion and free-roaming dogs hinder population recovery. Conservation includes establishing refuges and preserving connections between isolated groups.
