Pallas’s cat — size comparison — facts and sources

Pallas's cat inhabits cold, dry landscapes of Central Asia. It lives on steppes and rocky slopes, where boulders and uneven terrain provide cover. It avoids places with deep snow.

It uses rock crevices and burrows dug by other animals for resting and breeding. It hunts pikas, voles, gerbils, birds and other available prey. It stalks, flushes prey from hiding or waits at a burrow entrance.

It is often active at dusk, although feeding times may vary. Motionless crouching and its colouring help it blend with the ground. Outside breeding, Pallas's cats usually live alone. The female gives birth and rears young in shelter. Kittens gradually begin following her, learning hunting places and routes between retreats.
