Painted turtle — size comparison — facts and sources

The painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) inhabits quiet waters in North America.

Logs projecting above the water provide basking sites, often used by several individuals at once. It feeds chiefly in water, with plants forming a larger part of the diet as it ages.

It eats aquatic plants, insects, crustaceans and small fish. The female comes ashore to bury her eggs.
