Pacific halibut — size comparison — facts and sources

The Pacific halibut is among the largest flatfishes. It lives near the North Pacific seabed, hunting fish and invertebrates. Adults have broad, flattened bodies and usually rest on one side on the substrate.

Young begin life as bilaterally symmetrical larvae. During development one eye moves to the other side of the head, and the body gradually flattens. Both adult eyes consequently face the water above the bottom.
