The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
Ord’s kangaroo rat inhabits dry western North America from sandy Canadian areas to Mexico. Sparse vegetation and open ground allow unobstructed hopping.
At night it collects seeds and carries them in fur-lined cheek pouches to underground stores. In summer it may also eat insects. Water obtained partly through food metabolism reduces its need to drink.
Usually solitary, it closes the burrow entrance by day to maintain better conditions inside. Encounters with neighbours can lead to fights using its powerful hindlegs.
nos → koniec ogona; ogon wliczony. Długość całkowita samców 210–365 mm; osobny zakres samic 208–360 mm. Koniec ogona ukryty pod sierścią i przebieg jego osi w ilustracji są przybliżone.
