Nurse shark — size comparison — facts and sources

The nurse shark has a broad flattened head, small mouth and paired barbels for investigating the bottom. It inhabits warm coastal waters, reefs and sandy bays. By day it often rests beneath ledges or in sheltered depressions, sometimes with others.

After dark it searches crevices and substrate for crustaceans, molluscs and fish. Powerful suction draws water and prey from refuges, providing food less accessible to predators pursuing fish in open water.
