Northern fur seal — size comparison — facts and sources
The northern fur seal breeds on islands of the North Pacific and Bering Sea. It has dense fur, visible external ears and long foreflippers. Sexual size differences are considerable: adult males may weigh several times as much as females, while length differences are much less pronounced.
It forms seasonal breeding colonies on land and travels widely across the ocean outside them. It dives in open water for fish and squid. Its year therefore combines densely packed colony life with long periods at sea.
