The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The northern cassowary inhabits lowland forests of northern New Guinea. It has black plumage, a head casque and a single red neck wattle. Strong legs carry it through dense undergrowth, and the inner toe bears a long claw.
It chiefly eats fallen fruit, supplemented by fungi and small animals. Large fruit can be swallowed whole; carrying seeds in its digestive tract helps disperse plants between distant parts of the forest.
It is usually encountered alone. The male incubates eggs in a ground nest, then leads and protects chicks through forest feeding areas. Adults usually avoid people but may defend themselves with powerful kicks if cornered.
Kazuar jednokoralowy różni się od kaskowatego krewniaka przede wszystkim pojedynczym koralem na szyi. Jest ważnym roznosicielem dużych nasion w lasach Nowej Gwinei. Badania terenowe opisują kazuary w zakresie około 120–150 cm; plansza wykorzystuje dolną wartość 120 cm do szczytu hełmu.
