The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Nilgiri tahr occurs only in the southern Western Ghats of India. It uses mountain grasslands adjoining cliffs and forest.
It grazes grasses and herbs, supplementing its food with available leaves. Females with young form groups, while adult males may remain separate outside the breeding season. The female usually cares for one kid. The offspring soon follows its mother, learning safe passages between feeding areas and rocky shelters.
The Nilgiri tahr is a natural symbol of Tamil Nadu. Older literature uses the name Hemitragus hylocrius. Its conservation includes preserving mountain grasslands and connections between isolated populations.
