Nile lechwe — size comparison — facts and sources

The Nile lechwe inhabits floodplains, swamps and seasonally flooded meadows in the Nile basin. Males have horns and darken with age, while females and young remain golden-brown. Long legs and spreading hooves aid movement over soft, wet ground.

It eats grasses and aquatic plants. Herds use shallow water and wet feeding areas. When alarmed it may escape through water, using ground more difficult for its pursuer.
