Nerodia sipedon
wzdłuż osi ciała · od pyska do końca ogonaMeasurement: side
The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The northern watersnake (Nerodia sipedon) inhabits North American rivers, lakes, ponds and their margins. Its blotched pattern may be clearer in young snakes, with the body darkening with age.
It hunts by day and night, swallowing prey without constriction. It often basks on plants, wood and other places above water.
It eats fish, amphibians and other aquatic animals. Usually solitary in warmer months, it may encounter others at shared basking sites.
