The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The mugger crocodile inhabits fresh waters of the Indian subcontinent. It occurs in rivers, lakes, swamps and reservoirs with quieter banks. A broad snout and powerful body suit varied prey, while the strong tail supports effective swimming.
It catches fish, birds, mammals and other vertebrates, usually by ambush. It alternates basking ashore with resting in water. It can use waters with marked differences between wet and dry seasons. Burrows dug into banks shelter it from extreme temperatures and drought.
Females lay eggs in nests excavated on land. Hatchlings are much more vulnerable to predators than adults and use shallow water and vegetation for cover.
