The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The common mudpuppy (Necturus maculosus) inhabits North American lakes, rivers and other permanent freshwater. It retains feathery gills on both head sides into adulthood. Four limbs assist bottom movement, while a flattened tail propels swimming. It uses shelters beneath stones and submerged logs.
It eats small aquatic animals, including crustaceans. Its entire life cycle is aquatic, without metamorphosis into a terrestrial salamander. The female lays eggs in cover and stays with them during embryonic development.
Mierzymy odcinek: pysk → koniec ogona. Środek zakresu 20–33 cm; dorosła forma zachowująca skrzela, nie zwykła larwa. Wysokość postawy wynika z proporcji ilustracji. Przód jest przybliżoną projekcją.
