Mountain anoa — size comparison — facts and sources

The mountain anoa is endemic to forests on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. It is one of the island's small wild bovids. Boundaries between its populations and the lowland anoa are difficult to recognise; elevation alone is insufficient to determine the species.

It eats forest plants, including leaves and fruit. It is most often observed alone or in small aggregations. Its wild life is poorly known, and available information cannot describe all its habits in detail.

Forest loss and hunting are among its main threats. Difficulties identifying animals in the field also hinder estimates of individual population sizes.
