The Moorish gecko has a flattened, strong body and distinctly tuberculate skin. Expanded toes allow it to climb vertical surfaces and hide in wall crevices.

It is chiefly nocturnal, hunting insects that may gather around lamps. By day it uses warm, sheltered hiding places. It is stockier than the Mediterranean house gecko.

Besides buildings it occupies rocks and ruins with numerous crevices.
