The Mongolian saiga (Saiga tatarica mongolica) is an endemic saiga subspecies of western Mongolia. The WWF Poland source treats it as a subspecies rather than a separate species. It lives on steppes and semi-deserts. Its enlarged nose filters dust, and males have pale, ringed horns.
This herbivore is vulnerable to habitat loss, competition with livestock, poaching and extreme weather. Diseases transmitted from livestock can cause abrupt population declines.
