The Mediterranean house gecko has delicate, pale skin with darker spots and raised tubercles. Large eyes with vertical pupils aid nocturnal activity. Expanded toe pads allow movement on walls. It often stays near buildings.

At night it hunts small invertebrates, sometimes around lights attracting insects. It can shed its tail, which later regrows but may look different.
