The marsh frog is a large member of Europe’s green frogs. Its back may be green or brown, and males have paired greyish vocal sacs. It resembles other Pelophylax frogs, so colour alone cannot identify the species.

It lives in and beside permanent water bodies. It hunts invertebrates and small vertebrates available in water and immediately nearby.
