The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The maned wolf is a South American canid of cerrado, savannas, wetlands and dry forest edges. Black legs and mane contrast with a reddish body and white throat marking. Exceptionally long legs help it move through tall grass, while large mobile ears detect concealed animals.
It is omnivorous, catching small mammals, birds and insects, but fruit and other plant parts form a large share of its diet. It readily eats lobeira, known as wolf fruit. When hunting, it may strike the ground with a forepaw to flush prey, then pounce.
It usually feeds alone. A male and female may share a territory without continually travelling or hunting together. Scent, particularly intense in this species, signals their presence.
Smithsonian National Zoo podaje około 90 cm w barku i około 23 kg. Te 90 cm wykorzystujemy bezpośrednio na planszy. Smukła masa nie odpowiada imponującej wysokości — to właśnie ta różnica czyni gatunek szczególnie interesującym do porównania.
