The stump-tailed macaque inhabits Southeast Asian forests. It has dark-brown fur, a bare red face and short tail. Newborns have pale coats that darken with age; adults often forage on the ground.
It feeds from the morning, gathering fruit, seeds, leaves, flowers, roots and small animals. Cheek pouches temporarily store food.
Groups include males, females and young. After conflicts, calming contacts help restore relationships between participants.
