The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The lowland paca lives in tropical Central and South American forests. It favours proximity to rivers and other water bodies, where it makes burrows. Forest strips between transformed areas may provide travel routes between resting and feeding places.
After dark it searches mainly for fallen fruit. It supplements its diet with seeds, leaves and tubers, with food choice depending on seasonal availability. It regularly visits several places near its retreat. It swims well and may enter water to escape a predator.
Adults may form pairs and loose family groups. The female rears a small number of young in shelter, and fruit abundance affects breeding opportunities. The paca makes characteristic booming sounds through the structure of its cheekbones.
