The marine otter, Lontra felina, is a small otter of rocky seashores. It has a dark-brown back, paler underside, dense whiskers and a short, powerful tail. Webbed toes assist swimming.
It uses shelters among coastal rocks and climbs them well, although it is more agile in water than on land. It seeks prey while diving, selecting crustaceans and molluscs among other food. Outside breeding it often acts alone.
