Longman’s beaked whale — size comparison — facts and sources

Longman’s beaked whale inhabits deep warm Indian and Pacific waters. For years it was chiefly known from scarce remains; its description was based on a skull found on a Queensland beach. Later observations linked the name to living animals.

It hunts cephalopods and fish far below the surface. Groups occur, but migrations and behaviour remain sparsely documented. Some historical sightings of large beaked whales may have involved this species.
