Long-tailed macaque — size comparison — facts and sources

The long-tailed macaque uses various Southeast Asian forests, including riverside, coastal and mangrove forests. It can also live near people. Available resources and cover influence how the group moves through its area.

It eats fruit and other plant parts, supplementing its diet with animal food. Near coasts it may catch crabs and other invertebrates. The importance of these food sources varies between populations.

It forms groups containing both sexes. Females usually retain bonds with their birth group, while males more often move between groups. Mutual grooming and daily contact help maintain relationships. Its long tail supports movement but is not a grasping limb.
