The long-eared jerboa is a tiny desert rodent with disproportionately large ears. It has short forefeet, very long hind limbs and a tail ending in a black-and-white brush. Pale underparts and sandy-reddish fur blend with dry surroundings.
It inhabits Mongolian and Chinese deserts and semi-deserts. Chiefly nocturnal, it leaps over open ground. It eats insects, including flying ones located by hearing and caught after leaping into the air. Hairy feet provide contact with sand.
