Leopard seal — size comparison — facts and sources

The leopard seal is a large Southern Ocean seal with an elongated head and powerful jaws. It often stays near Antarctic pack ice. Outside care of a pup, it is usually solitary.

Its varied diet includes krill, fish, penguins and other seals. Front teeth grip large prey, while suitably arranged cheek teeth separate krill from water. It can therefore shift between actively hunting larger animals and filtering small crustaceans.
