The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Norway lemming has contrasting black and yellowish-brown fur. It inhabits tundra and mountain areas of northern Scandinavia. In winter it feeds in spaces beneath the snow; its coat does not turn uniformly white as in some other lemmings.
It feeds on mosses, sedges and other plants. Activity is not restricted to one time of day, fitting conditions at northern latitudes. The rodent can create passages among plants and beneath snow to reach mosses and other food items.
At high densities individuals may respond aggressively to one another, although they live independently most of the time.
