Largetooth sawfish — size comparison — facts and sources

The largetooth sawfish is a large ray with an elongated snout ending in a flat, toothed “saw”. It lives in warm coastal waters, estuaries and rivers. Young may use shallow river and estuarine areas.

It hunts fish and crustaceans. The extended snout helps detect prey, and sideways movements strike fish before capture. This feeding method links it to the bottom and coastal habitats. Its projecting “saw” easily becomes entangled in nets.
