The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The kipunji has relatively long brown fur, a black face and a prominent head crest. The underside is paler, as is the distal part of its long tail. Hands and feet remain dark. It resembles mangabeys but belongs to a separate genus.
It lives only in Tanzania, in separated mountain forest complexes. It spends most of its time in tree crowns. It eats fruit, leaves and other plant resources, with dietary composition changing seasonally. Its loud call distinguishes it from similar-looking mangabeys.
Its small range and fragmented habitat mean that even partial forest loss matters greatly. Researchers continue to build knowledge of differences between its isolated populations.
Przykład 87,5 cm, środek szacowanego zakresu dorosłych samców 85–90 cm długości głowy i tułowia. Zakres przytacza publikacja Primates (2026) za Davenport i in. (2006).
