King cobra — size comparison — facts and sources
The king cobra, Ophiophagus hannah, is a large venomous snake of Asian forests, specialised in hunting other snakes. It uses chemical cues collected by the tongue to track prey and venom to immobilise it.
A raised head and expanded hood are warning displays, rather than its normal resting posture. Females build nests from leaves. Several populations formerly grouped under the name king cobra are now recognised as separate species; this profile specifically represents Ophiophagus hannah.
